GOING ON AGAIN!!! ONLINE TRANSITION SUMMIT:
MAY 12th to May 16th!

We would like to welcome you to MCIL’s 4th Online Transition Summit where we will be discussing a variety of issues related to youth with disabilities as they transition from school life to adult life. For everyone involved, this is both an exciting time and a scary time. For parents, family members, teachers/professionals, and for the student themselves, the transition period is a very complex and trying process.

The purpose of this Online Summit is to do the following:

Bring people together. More can be accomplished when we all work together.
Problem Solve: Got a question? Got an answer? Bring both!
Generate Discussion: Many people talking about issues or situations generates more ideas!
Collaborate: Working together, we can improve transition for ALL youth!
Demonstrate: This Summit is meant to show how useful this discussion board can be to all of us.

IL workshop on Digital Scrap booking rescheduled

The workshop scheduled for April 24th, 2008 on digital scrap booking has been resecheduled. The next Digital Scrap Booking session is May 29th at 10 am - 12 pm. Please RSVP, as space is limited.

Artists with Disabilities Exhibit through August 2008

MEET THE ARTISTS of "Changing Landscapes: Visiting Artists With Disabilities," an exhibit gracing the walls of the Institute on Community Integration at the University of Minnesota through August.
Exhibit is located at 325 Education Science Building.

Only sixty days planning to get out of nursing home

New rules from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) would make it harder for nursing home residents to move out in the community.

If proposed rule changes go into effect, only 60 days of relocation services will be funded rather than the 180 days of relocation services available. Bottom line: many would not be able to get out of the nursing home at all. Eva Hansen, manager of MCIL's relocation program, estimates that 70% or more of relocation cases take longer than 60 days.
