What we do in our down time is often what we find most enjoyable. Hobbies and leisure activities connect us with others that have similar interests; overall it's these interests that keep us sane in fast paced world!

That said:

What do you do for recreation and leisure?

How do you plan for it... is it expensive? Is there travel involved?

Here are some local sites that might spike some interest:

http://www.tcunderground.com/ (club for youth)

http://www.rakemag.com/ (arts, events & dinning)

http://www.citypages.com/ (movie schedules & events)

http://www2.bitstream.net/~iras/ (performing arts directory)

Transportation:

Rec/leisure discussions are some of my favorite. We wanted to talk about this as it is very important for people to be able to enjoy the free-time they have. Going back to employment for a second, it is important that we are able to recharge ourselves when we aren’t at work. Work is something that takes a lot of energy out of you and it is important to refill your tanks with fun activities and other things you enjoy. For me, I work so I can pay for the things I love to do like ride my mountain bike, play my PC and Xbox 360 games, take pictures with my digital camera, and go camping. All these activities cost money so I need to work hard to pay for all this stuff!

Exercising is a great rec/leisure activity that can give you energy. Go for a walk, ride your bike, play some hoops, goto a gym, or throw the football around with some friends. You may think that you will be more tired but I would be willing to bet that you feel great after doing things like this.

Another issue to recognize is that sometimes, we need to plan for activities. Let’s say you are going to the movies with friends. What do you need for transportation? What time does the movies start? How do I get there? How much are tickets? There are questions you need to ask yourself and find answers to so that you can DO the activity. Planning is something that is important. The Internet can help find these answers often. Does anyone use the Internet to plan for activities? What websites do you use?

Anytime you want to do anything it's important that we think about what's involved. The same can be said for Rec & Leisure. It's important that you do a little recon anytime you try something new. You wouldn't climb a mountain without the right equioment would you? Not saying people are all looking to climb mountains on their days off, but my point is that preparation is a good thing.

For example, say you wanted to go to a event downtown Minneapolis. You're favorite musician is playing at the Dakota on Niccollet Mall;

It would be important for you to plan how you'd get there. You might decide to take the light rail to downtown; it stops on Niccollet Mall and it's pretty user friendly as well. Once you're there it's approximitly 4 blocks to the Dakota Jazz Club.

This is just an example, but it's also a great idea and it's very accessible!
