Good Day Everyone!

When people ask you about your plans after high school, what do you say? Many are quick to say, “I am going to go to college”; to be honest though many feel that they cannot say this because of their situation or abilities. Truthfully this time is challenging and for many it comes with all new plans and experiences.

Everyone can have the chance to succeed at this level though.

In order to break this topic down I have asked our Transition Intern Jillian to share some of her experiences and insights. Jillian is very knowledgeable and actually is going to graduate this semester from Minneapolis Community and Technical College (in Minneapolis).

I am planning on going to a 4 year college. I want to continue my education. I would like to study animals. Also I want to be a make up artist.

I am doing make up now with my oldest sister. She is make up artist herself. I go to the library and look for animals books. I watch TV Animal Planet.

Well I am thinking about going to college or just doing a job first. But to be able to do those jobs, I will have to go to college. I am intrested in the medical field and social services. Also I think I can be a librarian helper so I can help put books away on the shelf.

My dream is to go to a hospital or clinic such as Cerenity or like Children's Hospital or an adult hospital. And be the assitant nurse. 8)

I have been in a child development class to learn how to care for an infant or baby. My experience with the child was not very good because before the weekend was gone the battery turned off on me.

Wow you guys... You beat me to it...

Good morning everyone... Like Nick said I am Jillian and i am the intern here at MCIL for the transition program and a student at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. Being an intern here is part of my requirements for graduating this semester. A lot of colleges offer internships as a class so that you can get on the job training while your still in school.

I am a human service major, which is very similar to social services. My goal is to work with youth with disabilities.

I don't just know about surviving college, I know about surviving college with a disability.

Check out this article about planning for college and having a disability

[b]What kind of colleges have you thought about going to?

What do you think some of the challenges in college will be?

What do you think is most exciting about going off to college?

also if you have any questions about college or what its like to be a college student with a disability feel free to ask...
